Major celebration of cinema in Wales

With events taking place in 40 venues throughout Wales, audiences are expected to exceed last year’s Wales Cinema Day turn out to prove that Wales loves cinema.
People from Holyhead to Newport, and Wrexham to Haverfordwest will be able to attend special events held in their area, to include preview screenings of not one but three big films due for general release later in the year.
Among the highlights of the day on January 27 will be at UGC Newport which is to host Welsh Charity Premiere of 'The Wild Thornberrys' movie, in the presence of the Welsh Minister for Culture, Jenny Randerson.
Hosted by Sgrîn, United International Pictures and UGC Cinemas, all proceeds from the evening will be donated to the WWF. The film will not be released in the UK until February 7, and thanks to UIP, Welsh cinemas will be screening the film exclusively to celebrate Wales Cinema Day. Special fun packs will be handed out to the young audience. For ticket information contact Michael at Sgrîn on 029 2033 3305. Ticket Prices are: Family (2 adults, 2 children or 1 adult, 3 children) £20, Adult £10, Child: £8.
The movie will also be previewing at Wyeside Arts Centre, Builth Wells; and a special WWF charity screenings of the film will also be held at Pwllheli Neuadd Dwyfor, and Port Talbot Apollo Cinema. These venues should be contacted directly for ticket details.
Oscar favourite 'Antwone Fisher' is to screen in Wales, five weeks before general release. Denzel Washington has been tipped for a Best Director Oscar this year for his debut feature Antwone Fisher. Based on a true story, the story follows a sailor (Derek Luke), prone to violent outbursts, who is sent to a naval psychiatrist (Washington) for help. The film is due for general release on March 7 but will screen at Theatr Gwynedd, Bangor, Lyric Cinema Carmarthen and Canolfan Ucheldre Holyhead on Wales Cinema Day.
This third preview giant will be 'The Banger Sisters' due for release on January 31. The new Susan Saran don and Goldie Hawn vehicle the film will screen in Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Bridgend Odeon, Cardiff UGC, Cwmbran Scene Cinema, Holyhead Empire, Llandudno Junction Cineworld, Llanelli Entertainment Centre, Merthyr Tydfil Castle Cinema, Metro Cinema Newport and the Wrexham Odeon.
