NOBLES GATE SECURE COMMISSIONS FROM CHANNEL 4

SINCE OPENING a production office in Scotland three years ago, Nobles Gate in Edinburgh have secured a slate of commissions from Channel 4 and their subsidiary, FilmFour.
The company's two young directors are now embarking on their most recent commission, ‘Alien Evolution’, about the Alien movies starring Sigourney Weaver.
The move appears to be part of a general trend in recent years as Channel 4, with the producers' association, PACT, working to develop the creative industries in Scotland.
Nobles Gate, like other recent arrivals on the growing Scottish production sector such as Lion Television, Hart Ryan and Brighter Pictures, part of the GMG Endemol Group, are recognising that there are significant advantages in developing their business by establishing production centres outside London.
Russell Leven and Andrew Abbott set up Nobles Gate Scotland, with financial assistance from Channel 4's development fund, after working in the industry in London for two years. The pair met while at University in Edinburgh and were keen to move back to the city.
Working mainly with Nick Jones, Channel 4's Head of Film Programming, Nobles
Gate have enjoyed rapid growth, particularly over the last six months. As they get underway with the filming of ‘Alien Evolution’, another production, ‘Shawshank - The Redeeming Feature’, will be broadcast in September. The documentary looks at the phenomenal appeal of the 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption, and how it has unexpectedly become one of the most popular films of the last twenty years.
A key supporter of inward investment in Scotland's creative industries,
Channel 4's Head of Programmes Nations & Regions, Stuart Cosgrove, said: "Companies, like Nobles Gate, add significant value to Scotland's creativity. They have recognised the opportunities and benefits of establishing a presence in Scotland, in terms of network commissions and quality of life.” (CD)
