PHILIPS LAUNCHES NEW GOLDLINE PRO

PHILIPS Digital Networks will introduce the GoldLine PRO Program Encoder at IBC2001, offering major advancements in video compression and permitting the delivery of high-quality digital video at very low bit-rates across cable, terrestrial, satellite and telecom networks.
New research by Philips Digital Networks in pre-processing and encoding algorithms has facilitated the design of the new GoldLine PRO Program Encoder series, a second generation version of the highly acclaimed GoldLine Encoder series launched at last year’s IBC. Using new technologies that significantly improve high-quality encoding at very low bit-rates, the GoldLine PRO model builds on the extremely high performance and outstanding picture quality achieved with previous models. The new model, to be launched at IBC2001 sets a new benchmark for encoding efficiency.
Existing Philips customers benefit from the breakthrough in compression technology via a dedicated upgrade program that will enable increased quality and bandwidth to provide greater cost savings. A high number of the first series of GoldLine encoders has been installed throughout the world, and can now be upgraded to the GoldLine PRO.
This latest series of program encoders, powered by a dedicated Philips encoding chip-set, features ClearView technology that incorporates a new Motion Vector Interweaving (MVI) algorithm developed by Philips Research. Top-quality images and bandwidth performance in constant and variable bit-rate of encoded digital feeds are achieved with the ClearView MVI technology, improving the compression efficiency of MPEG-2 encoded signals at very low bit-rates by as much as 15 per cent. The GoldLine PRO encoders also feature an entirely new, user-programmable, set of filter banks, enabling full customization for specific requirements and various video sources.
