BBC Technology's London Media Gateway claims international award
BBC Technology has been recognised at the Cable and Satellite International/Mediacast Product of the Year Awards 2004, with its London Media Gateway (LMG) service placed in the top three of the 'best permanent/occasional video service' category.
London Media Gateway is a self-serve content fibre network that helps broadcasters, news agencies, international networks and producers exchange content with unlimited access for a fixed fee.
Part of BBC Technology's Media Communications division, which provides content distribution and platform management services to broadcasters and other media organisations, the LMG delivers operational cost savings and the flexibility to utilise services on either a permanent or ad-hoc basis. This reduces the financial and technology risks inherent in high-quality content distribution across international networks.
Companies actively using the LMG include: Video Networks, MTV, Globecast, BBC News, the EBU, BSkyB, TVNZ and the Press Association.
The Cable and Satellite International/Mediacast awards are a major industry event for the cable, satellite and broadcast marketplace and recognise excellence in broadband technology.
