Prime Focus purchases India’s first MRMC Ulti-Head
Mumbai-based Prime Focus Limited has purchased a Mark Roberts Motion Control Ulti-Head pan/tilt remote head, the first to be supplied to India.
The Ulti-Head will enable the company to provide easily transportable motion-control facilities in addition to the studio-based Milo, which Prime Focus installed in 2003. The order was placed and confirmed at the NAB 2004 Spring Convention, which was held in Las Vegas mid-April. The head is due to be delivered in July or early August.
Introduced in October 2003, Ulti-Head combines rugged construction with much smaller dimensions (511 x 243 x 234 mm HWD) than previous additions to the Mark Roberts range of motion control equipment. It can be mounted on a crane, tripod or Panther dolly and powered from a 24-volt battery.
Ulti-Head control options include MRMC grip-sticks, hand-wheels and remote joysticks. Fully repeatable movement, storage and replay can be accomplished using MRMC's Flair software and electronic hardware. Flair enables an operator to pre-visualise each move before committing to the action run. Camera move data can be exchanged in CGI format with third-party image creation software. Flair also provides repeatable control of camera axes and lens settings.
Ulti-Head is compatible with a wide variety of industry-standard film cameras and video camcorders.
Prime Focus Managing Director, Namit Malhorta, said: “We have received many enquiries regarding outdoor applications of mobile control. While our Milo installation can certainly be used on location, Ulti-Head’s compactness and DC drive allow it to be used with a relatively lightweight tripod or dolly. Having seen the pictures and read the spec, we were delighted to be able to try the unit at NAB. Ulti-Head has all the robustness and precision we associate with Mark Roberts Equipment.”
A leading supplier of film and television motion control systems, Mark Roberts Motion Control has clients in Asia, Australasia, India, the Middle East, Europe and North and South America. A sister company in the USA provides hire facilities within the West Coast region.
