Cinema Ireland at the Festival of Irish Arts and Culture in China

Cinema Ireland, a season of Irish feature and short films selected in association with the Irish Film Institute, is to be screened at the end of May in Beijing and in June as part of the Shanghai International Film Festival.
This season of film screenings is part of a larger festival of Irish arts and culture taking place in both cities, which forms one half of a major cultural exchange programme between Ireland and China. The opening film will be the recently Oscar nominated ‘In America’ directed by Jim Sheridan.
Richard Wakely, Commissioner for the Festival of Arts and Culture in China, said: “Ireland now has a vibrant and growing indigenous film industry that has produced several of the world’s leading film makers including Academy Award winners Neil Jordan (‘Michael Collins’) and Jim Sheridan (In America). Irish filmmakers have through their work reflected the seismic changes in Ireland’s political, social, economic and cultural landscape. All these different aspects of Irish film culture are reflected in one way or another in the selection of films that we are screening in China.”
