Further Irish Films Announced For TIFF 2016

News Image
Two further Irish films have been selected to air at this year's Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2016.

'Handsome Devil' is set in a privileged boys' boarding school in Ireland. At the rugby-mad school, Ned and Conor are forced to share a bedroom. The two boys – one of which is a loner and the other a macho athlete – form an unlikely friendship, until it is tested by the authorities.

The film is directed by John Butler. It is produced by Rebecca O'Flanagan and Rob Walpole for Treasure Entertainment, and the cast includes Andrew Scott, Moe Dunford, Amy Huberman, Michael McElhatton, Fionn O'Shea and Nick Galitzine. Brian O'Driscoll, former Ireland and Lions rugby captain helped to choreograph some of the movie's rugby scenes. The film was selected for the Contemporary World Cinema strand of the TIFF programme.

'Brain On Fire' is from Gerard Barrett and stars Chloe Grace Moretz in the lead role. Richard Armitage and Thomas Mann also star, while Charlize Theron is an Executive Producer. The film is a look at a young New York woman's rapid descent into insanity.

The two films join 'Maudie', 'The Secret Scripture', 'Unless', 'Without Name', 'Forever Pure' and short film 'Second To None' at this year's festival.

The Toronto International Film Festival takes place from 8 to 18 September, 2016.
