BBC Broadcast Technology Assistant Trainee Scheme announced
BBC News is on the look out for people with a passion for technology to apply for this year’s Broadcast Technology Assistant Trainee Scheme.
The scheme, now in its fourth year, is recruiting five people to begin training in mid September. The training scheme lasts for two and a half years, after which each successful candidate is fully absorbed into the Broadcast Technology team.
The trainees will receive structured development through a mix of theoretical and practical on-the-job skills training and work experience to get a real feel for and understanding of the work and life of the BBC. BBC trainees receive the highest quality training in all aspects of broadcast media support. They will also enjoy the benefits of first-hand experience working as part of the BBC News Support team – in the News Production Facilities department - at Television Centre. Plus they will each have a personal BBC mentor who will give them an insight into the BBC and help them develop their career.
"News is one of the fastest growing and most competitive areas of the broadcast industry," said Richard Sambrook, BBC's Director of News. "The BBC’s technology is just as creative as our programme-making. There is a proliferation of new technology being introduced to news production, which is rapidly changing the face of the industry. It's crucial, therefore, that we recruit the best people to drive this news revolution.
"The BBC serves every community across the UK, so it's important that we recruit widely to make sure our trainees and staff reflect a wide range of backgrounds and experience."
Broadcast Technology Assistant trainees will join the BBC News Support team. This team consists of about 200 staff who provide centralised technical and operational support to all areas of news, both in the UK and 50 international bureaux.
Applicants should have an A-level or equivalent in physics, computing, electronics, maths or an engineering subject. They should also have a fascination for broadcasting, an understanding of technology and how it is advancing and a real interest in learning more.
The deadline for applications to the scheme is June 21 2004.
For more information and details on how to apply, as well as profiles from previous trainees, log on to www.bbc.co.uk/jobs/btat. The course reference number is 72702/PF
