Quantel generationQ and Sony XDCAM provide synergy
Quantel is demonstrating its generationQ interface with XDCAM on the Sony booth at NAB this year.
With a number of broadcasters worldwide already committed to generationQ news systems teamed with XDCAM acquisition, the benefits of the combination of the two technologies are proving highly attractive.
The Seven Network in Australia, one of the country’s leading commercial broadcasters, is among the first to exploit the synergy of Quantel’s generationQ server and editing technology and Sony’s XDCAM acquisition model. The combination of the two technologies enables a production workflow that allows XDCAM material to appear seamlessly within the Quantel server/editing environment, accelerating the ingest procedure for digital newsroom systems.
“The combination of Quantel servers and editing technology and Sony XDCAM will provide us with an incredibly smooth workflow right from camera to broadcast,” said David Aspinall, Seven Network Chief Operating Officer.
“Quantel’s concept of handling browse and broadcast material together within the server is mirrored by XDCAM in acquisition. It means that shot selection and editing can begin almost the moment the media is mounted, and we’ll only need to pull down the high resolution material we actually need instead of dumping 20 minutes of material for a news story that runs for a minute and a half. It will save server capacity, ease media management and give us dramatically reduced time to air.”
