PACE AWARDED NEW CONTRACT WITH OMNE

PACE Micro Technology have been awarded a new contract with broadband communications company omne communications.
Pace will supply omne with one of the world’s most advanced digital cable, home gateway systems in volume production, for their new broadband network.
The network will stretch from the north-west of England to the south-west of Scotland. The contract, for 70,000 Pace cable home gateways or set-top boxes covers a two-year period, and follows omne’s recent launch in Ayrshire in early September.
The omne service will begin to rollout this autumn with a state-of-the-art digital broadband communications network. Subscribers will benefit from interactive television, fixed line voice telephony, and high-speed broadband delivery. The service will pass 325,000 homes within the next two to three years.
The product to be delivered by Pace Micro Technology is a third generation interactive cable home gateway, the Di4000, which enables high-speed access to digital television services, ranging from email to home shopping and web-surfing. The Pace technology used is the most advanced of its type in current volume production and incorporates a 175 Mips processor, 40 Mbytes of memory and integrated high-speed cable modem.
Tim Fern, Chief Technology Officer at Pace, said: “omne are utilising the most innovative systems to deliver the best service available to their subscribers. Pace are one of the largest suppliers in the European home gateway market and are at the forefront of cable technology through our vision, investment in engineering and partnerships. We have achieved an impressive list of cable firsts, including the world’s first volume rollouts of home gateways with integrated cable modems, for high-speed interactive television services.” (CD)
