Framestore CFC nominated for BAFTA Craft Awards

Two Framestore CFC teams have been recognised at the highest level in this year's BAFTA Television Craft Awards.
For the second consecutive year, two of the four projects short-listed for the Visual Effects Award had special effects created by Framestore CFC. This year it was the turn of 'Sea Monsters: A Walking With Giants Trilogy' and 'Land of Giants: A Walking With Giants Special'.
Sea Monsters, which was first broadcast in the UK in November 2003, is a trilogy of programmes that continues the magnificent ongoing cycle of documentaries that started in 1999 with 'Walking With Dinosaurs'. Produced by Impossible Pictures for the BBC, and directed by Jasper James, Sea Monsters follows on from and continues to develop the revolutionary programme-making techniques that have made this series such a phenomenal worldwide hit.
The trilogy is linked thematically and dramatically by a quest: Zoologist Nigel Marvin sets out to visit the seven deadliest oceans of all time. Shot over seven months at locations around the world, the new shows required more than a year's work by the Framestore CFC team as they laboured to deliver some 19 new prehistoric creatures to the screen.
Land of Giants is a Walking With Dinosaurs special, one of two half-hour programmes that Framestore CFC created with Impossible Pictures. Building on the achievements of the worldwide success of Walking With Dinosaurs, Land of Giants showed CG creatures roaming the earth millennia ago, with the added twist of a human presenter - Zoologist Nigel Marvin - acting as our guide, exploring the prehistoric world and interacting with its saurian denizens.
Shown over the Christmas 2002 period, Land of Giants and its companion-piece, The Giant Claw, enjoyed spectacular ratings, and The Giant Claw went on to win the 2003 BAFTA Television Craft Award in the 'Visual Effects' category.
