National Skills Day for media industries announced

Skillset have joined with Broadcast to organise the first National Skills Day for the media industries, to be held on Wednesday May 18 2005.
Billed as “a major new event to raise awareness of the importance of skills, and skills development across the broadcast and film industries”, National Skills Day 2005 will demonstrate a coherent and concerted commitment by the industry and related bodies to raising awareness of skills development and the inherent benefits to the industry. The aim will also be to raise actual skills levels via the activities that will take place both on National Skills Day and as a result of increased awareness of the importance of skills.
Industry bodies are invited to become involved through a variety of activities such as job swaps, taster training sessions from training providers and broadcasters, free training advice sessions and competitions to win funding towards a training activity. Already BBC, Channel 4, ITV, Pact and Bectu have committed their support.
National Skills Day will be officially launched by Lord Puttnam at The Broadcast Production Show on Wednesday May 19 2004.
