National Skills Strategy announced
The Government have announced a National Skills Strategy, with a central role given to the Skills for Business Network.
Skillset, and the other Sectors Skills Councils which form the network, have been charged with delivering the strategy to improve the skills and productivity of 'UK plc'. The strategy "21st Century Skills: Realising our Potential" places Employers centre stage with a greater emphasis on a demand led education system and a more collaborative approach.
Clive Jones, Head of Carlton TV, Joint Managing Director of ITV welcomed the strategy, saying: "The government has realised that if economic productivity is to improve, employers need to be in the driving seat when it comes to skills. In the past employers have felt remote and distant from learning provision, but this strategy gives us more input through Skillset so we get exactly what we need. It's a much more joined up approach and is an opportunity we should take full advantage of."
