Innovative television venture for Birmingham launched

Birmingham based postproduction company Definitely Red have secured European funding to provide the infrastructure and technical staff for a new creative, community and advertising venture that will screen local movies, local animations, student work, and information about the arts scene on five plasma screens to be installed around Birmingham City Centre at the end of April.
Although the funding, from the ‘Creative Knowledge Creative Companies’ initiative, is set to help keep this innovative and creative community venture independent, there will be room for local advertising.
The channel will also be streamed on the web, where there will be the opportunity to find out more about the artists and events advertised. Definitely Red also anticipate that eventually the different screens will carry slightly different content and distinctly local advertising to reflect the area they are in.
Filmmakers, video producers and directors, fashion designers, sculptors, fine artists, photographers, designers, performance artists, musicians, as well as the local theatres, galleries and ballet companies will all have access to this new channel and the website to showcase their work, while local businesses will have a perfect opportunity to directly target the young and talented arts industry in the city.
Birmingham Arts and Business, Birmingham Film and Television, and Aston Media are all working with Definitely Red on this project.
“The purpose of this new channel is to highlight and advertise the amazing artistic talent in the Midlands and to give a voice to the creative industries who are often overlooked and swamped by the more conventional TV channels,” said Melanie Lee, Managing Director of Definitely Red.
