Will Hunt's Plans For Local TV Be Challenged?

Government's local TV plans have been dealt a major blow as the Guardian Media Group (GMG) announced it is to close Manchester television station Channel M.
Operating on a severely reduced basis since 2010 following the sale of parent company Guardian Media Group's regional newspapers in the north-west, the channel is to be shut down after 12 years on the air.
The closure will see the loss of three jobs, including Channel M controller John Furlong.
This news cast a shadow and indeed a question mark over government plans for launching local TV services.
Government plans for local television will see the first stations licensed this summer, with 10 or more services up and running by 2015.
Even before the closure of Channel M the planned local TV initiative caused controversy with shadow culture secretary Helen Goodman describing it as a "vanity project" undeserving of £120m of public money from the BBC licence fee.
