AIMS ProAV Working Group To Introduce IPMX

News Image
At ISE 2020 in Amsterdam, the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) ProAV Working Group will introduce Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX), a set of open standards and specifications designed to enable carriage of compressed and uncompressed video, audio, and data over IP networks.

IPMX addresses the ProAV industry's need for a single set of common, ubiquitous standards-based protocols that ensure interoperability for AV over IP. The AIMS stand (15-B250) will feature information and technical sessions covering every aspect of IPMX.

"IPMX implements a standards-based approach based on SMPTE ST 2110, with features and capabilities that target the specific needs of the ProAV industry," said David Chiappini, chair of the AIMS ProAV Working Group. "As manufacturers build IPMX support into their products, end users and integrators can be assured that those products truly conform to an interoperable and open standard for AV over IP."

In addition to simplifying implementation of SMPTE ST 2110 and ensuring interoperability for AV-over-IP systems, IPMX incorporates further features tailored to ProAV installations. These features include AMWA NMOS IS-04 and IS-05 for discovery, registration, and connection management; and specifications for copy protection and security.

IPMX is the result of the AIMS ProAV Working Group's efforts to define an open-standards approach to addressing the ProAV world's move toward IP media. The working group's approach for ProAV follows AIMS' broader efforts with the broadcast/media industry — namely, to promote multivendor interoperability that will foster long-term protection of customers' investments in technology and products. With the new IPMX open standards and specifications approach, AIMS presents a flexible, future-proof way to meet the video, audio, and data requirements of current and future ProAV solutions over IP — a framework for open, easy-to-deploy solutions.
