NOA To Introduce Archiving Technology At CABSAT 2020
NOA GmbH is getting ready to participate in CABSAT 2020 (Stand F6-22) which runs from March 31 to April 2 at the World Trade Center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
With the tagline "Create–Produce–Distribute Great Content", the main broadcast, media, satellite and film event in the region will this year bring together creative minds, technology innovators and media leaders to study the future of storytelling from content creation to production, sharing and consumption.
For AV digitizing and archiving specialist NOA, CABSAT represents an opportunity to further engage with its clients and to introduce the latest innovative archiving technology to attendees.
The company will be on hand to share recent developments with three NOA experts — Abderrahmane Bessaih, sales director for MENA & Asia; Manuel Corn, VP global sales & marketing; and Jean-Christophe Kummer, managing director. The NOA presence at the show will allow the company to dedicate more time to its increasing customer base in the region as well as the immense demand for archiving solutions in Arab countries.
One of NOA’s main focuses at this edition will be on the advanced systematic approach to archiving. As opposed to a simpler approach driven only by production needs, this method ensures long-term quality, productivity and economic efficiency to play key roles in all levels of legacy media preservation.
A systematic in-house digitization facility, for example, can efficiently manage 60,000+ tapes a year compared to the mere 600 tapes a solely production-driven strategy typically achieves. It therefore plays a significant role in saving a much larger portion of an archive in the same period of time, helping archivists construct a bigger and more coherent audiovisual repertoire.
“There is still a great need for preservation of legacy media carriers in the region and around the world. We are constantly visiting media houses and participating in industry events to help us better understand our present as well as potential clients’ requirements and share information with them on available archiving options and best practices” said Jean-Christophe Kummer, managing partner of NOA.
“Efficient content preservation is paramount for today’s and for future generations. In this endeavor, television broadcasters and production houses are facing the same challenges as other institutions,” he said. “Solutions available in the open source community have the potential to solve many issues, and specifically the FFV1 codec is certainly a valid option for long-term preservation of SD video content.”
In order to sustain the effort of media institutions worldwide to protect their treasures in a sustainable way, NOA recently launched a mediARC user forum (http://www.noa-archive.com/support/). The project is designed to support AV archivists and create interaction and cooperation between institutions around the world.
“We all need to be aware of the importance of this task and work together to ensure the world’s cultural heritage being preserved,” concluded Kummer. “We all need to remember that without action, archives will be lost - and that we have to do something about it now.”
