Ofcom appoints Advisory Committee for Wales
Ofcom has announced the members of its Advisory Committee for Wales.
Rhodri Williams, Ofcom Director, Wales, said: "The creation of the Advisory Committee means that Wales will have its say on a range of broadcasting, telecoms and wireless communications matters as well as the opportunity to shape regulatory policies. Members have been chosen on the basis that they represent a cross-section of the Welsh public and have experience and expertise across the range of responsibilities which fall within Ofcom's remit."
As set out in section 20 of the Communications Act 2003, the Committee has been established to provide advice to Ofcom (and any other committees established by Ofcom) about the interests and opinions of people living in Wales on all communications matters. The Committee will meet for the first time in Cardiff on March 18.
The Committee, which will meet quarterly in various parts of Wales, will report directly to the Ofcom Board and will publish its own annual report. The Ofcom Content Board and Consumer Panel Members for Wales (Sue Balsom and Simon Gibson respectively) will also attend meetings of the Committee.
For the first year, the Committee will be chaired by Rhodri Williams. Similar committees are also being established for Scotland, Northern Ireland and England. Full details and biographies of the appointees are available at: www.ofcom.org.uk.
