RANDERSON LAUNCHES SGRINS ANNUAL REVIEW
CULTURE Minister Jenny Randerson hosted a reception to launch Sgrin’s Annual Review at the National Assembly for Wales in Cardiff Bay on October 31.
The sixty-page document details Sgrin’s achievements during the last year and outlines some of the developments that will aid the film, television and new media industries in the coming years.
The Minister welcomed Sgrin's involvement in two initiatives intended to make Wales a more film friendly country. She affirmed the Partnership Government's commitment to a Film fund in Wales.
Sgrin have been heavily involved in investigative work into the feasibility of setting up a film fund for Wales and have been working closely with the Welsh Development Agency and the regional film commissions to establish the Wales Screen Commission, which will be responsible for the promotion of Wales as a location for film-makers, in particular to the overseas market.
Other new initiatives include the imminent delegation of Lottery funding for film from the Arts Council of Wales to Sgrin – which will aid Sgrin’s ability to consolidate its strategic role in the industry.
Randerson said: “I congratulate Sgrin on their success during the past year and look forward to seeing further progress for this important industry in the future.”
Sgrin’s Chair, Dr Geraint Stanley Jones, said: “At Sgrin we are encouraged and inspired by the support and advice that we have received from the Culture Minister. Our co-operation will ensure that Sgrin will continue to develop the best possible support for the media industries in Wales.” (CD)
