Entries Closed For Virgin Media Discovers Competition
Entries are now closed for the Virgin Media Discovers competition.
Over 600 short film scripts have been submitted by aspiring screenwriters and film industry professionals from across the country.
The competition, which is under the theme 'Discover Different', is designed to discover the most thought provoking and entertaining content and the next big name in Irish filmmaking. Entrants were invited to submit a 10 minute short film script and were challenged to be bold, different and fearless with their work.
The overall decision is made by Virgin Media's star-studded judging panel who will decide on the shortlist which will be revealed on 12th August. The judging panel comprises of film industry experts including actor Adrian Dunbar, Director Neasa Hardiman, Grainne Humphreys, Festival Director of Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival, Bill Malone, Director of Content at Virgin Media Television and Birch Hamilton, Director of the Screen Directors Guild.
Paul Higgins, Director of Consumer at Virgin Media, said: "Virgin Media Discovers Short Film competition is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring writers and directors. As Ireland's leading connected entertainment provider and commercial broadcasting company we are invested in discovering great entertainment and original storytelling. Virgin Media Discovers has proven to be a magnet for top industry professionals and aspiring screenwriters who pitched their narratives and the quality and volume of entries is a clear indication of the strength of Irelands creative industry.
"The ultimate winner will win €35,000 worth of investment to fund the production of their 10 minute short film, which will then be broadcast on Virgin Media Television, Virgin Media On Demand and screened at the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival 2020. Through our three year partnership with Ireland’s premier film festival we will continue to help foster local Irish film talent. Virgin Media Discovers is a fantastic opportunity for one individual and encourages emerging talent to share their most original, thought provoking and challenging work to date."
