Comcast SportsNet purchases SSL C100 Digital Broadcast Console
Comcast SportsNet, owner of the broadcast rights for the Philadelphia 76ers (NBA), Philadelphia Flyers (NHL) and Philadelphia Phillies (Major League Baseball), has purchased a Solid State Logic C100 Digital Broadcast Console.
The C100 audio console is configured with SSL’s remote (mic input) stagebox option, allowing Comcast SportsNet to broadcast games from two separate venues out of a single, High Definition control room. Each home game will feature full 5.1 Surround Sound.
According to Steve Zaretsky, SSL’s VP of Broadcast, the C100 console will serve as the hub for Comcast SportsNet’s centralized audio production. It will be located in the Wachovia Center, home of the National Basketball Association’s Philadelphia 76ers as well as the National Hockey League’s Philadelphia Flyers. An SSL stagebox, which was included as part of the C100’s components, will be placed at nearby Citizens Bank Park, the all-new home of Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies that is opening in 2004. Microphones from the baseball stadium will then be connected to the C100 at the Wachovia Center by fibre optic cable via the stagebox, streamlining Comcast SportsNet’s production operations and allowing home games from all three teams to be produced from a single facility, providing Comcast SportsNet with unprecedented flexibility.
“This innovative arrangement allows Comcast SportsNet to leverage their diverse lineup of Philadelphia sports programming,” said Rick Plushner, president of SSL North America. “Comcast SportsNet joins a growing list of major broadcast companies who have successfully installed the C100 console since its introduction in 2003. The C100 reflects SSL’s ongoing commitment to providing broadcasters with the most powerful and efficient tools on the market.”
