LFA TO OPEN IN A REFURBISHED CHURCH
ONE of Britain’s first full-time independent film schools are to open in a refurbished Victorian church in Fulham Broadway, SW6.
The London Film Academy (LFA) will answer the growing demand of students who want to qualify to work in the film industry in this country and around the world.
With the support of film fan and philanthropist David Game, Chairman of the David Game College Group, three floors have been dedicated to provide a new centre of excellence in film training, also offering space with the Advancement of Film Education Charitable Trust (AFECT) - an evening film school established 13 years ago.
LFA, a non-profit making trust, will provide comprehensive film industry production training. The LFA intensive courses put theory into practice. Working in small groups, supported and guided by working professionals, students will learn about the creative application of technical craft skills. Strong emphasis will be put on teamwork and effective communication, however pressurised the situation, and theoretical and practical sessions will encourage a disciplined, efficient and professional approach.
Michael Johns, Film Editor and one of the LFA course developers said: "The apprentice system of training hardly exists any more in our film industry. It is difficult for people to find practical training in the basics, skills and disciplines of film production."
Courses offered at the LFA include Introduction to Film-Making Certificate and Language of Film starting November 2001, Diploma in Film-Making starting January 2002 and Direct-a-10-Minute-Short starting 2003.
In particular, the 40-week diploma course covers all aspects of film production as well as basic film industry ‘survival’ information about tax, contracts, health & safety, marketing and distribution. (CD)
