BBC NI DRAMA CALLS FOR ALL IRISH WRITERS
BBC Northern Ireland Drama are calling for all Irish Writers to make their submissions for this year's Tony Doyle Bursary.
The aim of the bursary is not only to encourage Irish writers to write for television and inform writers of the opportunities that television affords, but also to nurture long-term creative links between all broadcasters and writers in Ireland.
The winner will receive a cash prize of £2000. Five finalists and the winner will be invited to a residential seminar run by the BBC Northern Ireland Drama Department.
The seminar will introduce the writers to the world of television drama through a series of sessions run by experienced practitioners – producers, directors, actors and fellow writers.
The BBC intend to announce the winner and runners-up in May 2002 and to hold the seminar in late May/early June 2002.
The BBC are inviting submissions from writers with an Irish background. The submission should be an outline of an original idea for television, which should be no more than four pages.
Enclose a ten page sample of previous work – such as part of a novel, play, screenplay or story. Submit two copies of the outline and sample work. Only one entry will be accepted per person, and the entries will not be returned. The writer must not have had their work previously produced for mainstream television.
All submissions should be received by January 31, 2002.
A shortlist of submissions will be judged by a panel including Liam Cunningham, Alan Mooloney, Peter Norris, Lorcan Cranitch, Tina Kellegher, Sally Doyle and Robert Cooper.
In choosing a winner, the panel will be considering the originality of the television outline and the writer’s ability.
