NTL OPENS MORN HILL IN £40 MILLION DEAL WITH ITV

NTL Broadcast have switched on their second major 'teleport' in Hampshire with their recently announced £40 million deal to deliver all 16 ITV regional feeds and ITV2 to digital satellite.
The new teleport at Morn Hill near Winchester complements the company's long-established Crawley Court facility.
NTL Broadcast currently uplinks more than 170 full-time TV channels, as well as being major providers of occasional services to news and sports broadcasters.
The new teleport is housed at a 20-acre site to the east of Winchester and is the second largest of four UK teleports operated by NTL. Morn Hill will facilitate the continued expansion of satellite services and will allow NTL Broadcast to maintain their position as one of the leading service providers in the UK.
ITV1 is the first service to be delivered from Morn Hill. It follows NTL's contract in July this year to put ITV services onto the Astra direct-to-home (DTH) digital satellite system, including programme feeds from the regional studios.
NTL are responsible for the collection of ITV feeds from each of the separate regions, digital compression, multiplexing and then final transmission of the signals to Astra 2D. This allows ITV channels to be received on home satellite receivers in addition to existing arrangements using terrestrial and cable platforms. ITV2 is due to join the regional services on satellite within days. (CD)
