Netflix To Deliver Insight On HDR Content At MPS
Netflix will host two keynote sessions at this year's Media Production Show (MPS) in London, 12-13 June, offering insights into creating High Dynamic Range (HDR) content, as well as a broader presentation on creating new dramas.
Netflix will kick off the Keynote Theatre programme on 12 June with a session on 'Creating the New Generation of Drama Series'. The panel, including Ann Starbuck, Senior Manager, Original Netflix Series Post Production for Netflix, Alex Gasgoine, Senior Colourist, Technicolor and Michael Keegan, Program Manager for Creative Partnerships at Netflix, will share their insights into how production and post facilities can work with Netflix within creative partnerships, using recent case studies as examples.
Netflix is also behind a significant drive to bring HDR to TV, with a growing number of Netflix Originals available to viewers in 4K UHD and HDR. HDR images provide a much greater range of contrast and colour, giving the image more depth. Most new mid- to high-end TVs can display content in HDR, and Netflix has committed to providing its subscribers with access to this content.
Chris Clarke, Netflix Manager, Production Technologies, will be joined by The Farm Group's Senior Colourist Aidan Farrell, Matt Branton, Senior Colourist at Dublin-based Windmill Park and Molinare's Chief Technology Officer Richard Wilding, to share hints, tips and best practice in the session entitled 'Creating Dolby Vision HDR Content with Netflix'. The session, which takes place in the Keynote Theatre on 13 June, will offer producers and post houses in-depth understanding of the creative and technical impact of working in HDR, from acquisition to delivery, including how to plan for an HDR shoot; the best cameras to use; the effect of HDR on production budgets and workflows; the best time to grade HDR; and how to deliver HDR content.
"Netflix has proved itself to be a revolutionary force in the broadcast world, and we're delighted to welcome them to the Media Production Show for the first time to share best practice and technical insights," said Charlotte Wheeler, Event Director, Media Production Show.
