INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS RECEIVE SKILLSET AWARDS

INDUSTRY professionals from the UK audio visual industries have received their Skillset Professional Qualification at an awards ceremony attended by Baroness Blackstone, Minister of State for the Arts.
Held at BAFTA the Skillset/Michael Samuelson Awards ceremony celebrated the achievement and hard work of the individuals were hosted by Lord Puttnam of Queensgate CBE.
The event was attended by nearly 250 senior industry figures involved in Skillset`s work or in the training and education sector, including new Skillset Patrons Stewart Till, Deputy Chairman of the Film Council and Roger Laughton, Head of Bournemouth Media School. Sir Sydney Samuelson CBE, the brother of the late Michael Samuelson CBE in whose memory the awards are named, also attended the ceremony. Samuelson was a great supporter of Skillset`s work and achievements.
The Skillset Professional Qualifications received range from Lighting Provision and Co-ordination level 4 to Production level 2 to Camera Assistance level 2. Candidates had been assessed for the qualifications at assessment centres such as the Northern Ireland Film Commission, BBC, FT2, National Film and Television School and Cyfle. The qualifications cover the standards and competencies for each occupational area in the Broadcast, Film, Video and Multimedia industry at all levels.
Individuals are assessed by professionals working in the industry and are awarded the qualifications only when the candidate has proved that they have the skills and knowledge necessary to do their jobs. (CD)
