CWMNI DA TO PRODUCE DOCUMENTARY FOR BBC WALES

CAERNARFON based independent Cwmni da have been commissioned by BBC Wales to produce a 30-minute documentary on the life and work of Susan Williams-Ellis - the creative genius behind Portmeirion Pottery.
Charting her work as a designer, from the 1951 Festival of Britain through the iconic totem coffee pot design of the 60's and the Botanical Gardens designs of the 70's the programme will follow Susan Williams-Ellis around the Portmeirion Pottery site in Stoke, the Italianate village of Portmeiron in North Wales (the location for the seminal 60's programme ‘The Prisoner’ - which also features pottery designed by Susan Williams-Ellis) and to the Maldives where 83 year old Williams-Ellis uses an innovative way of painting underwater.
The programme - commissioned by Paul Islwyn Thomas, Head of Arts BBC Wales - will be part of a new Arts Documentary strand to be broadcast by BBC1 Wales during January. (CD)
