Alan Perrin Joins Helicopter Film Services
Alan Perrin joins Europe's leading aerial filming business, Helicopter Film Services, as Head of UAV Operations, helping take the company to greater heights with its new Aerial LIDAR services.
"Alan and I have big plans for 2018 and are excited to be developing yet more cutting-edge technology for the industry," said Jeremy Braben, Aerial DoP / CEO of HFS.
Europe's leading aerial filming business, Helicopter Film Services, has welcomed on board Alan Perrin as its Head of UAV Operations, chosen for his experience and ability to take aerial filming to even greater heights.
In 2017 the firm provided aerial photogrammetry on many cinematic productions, generating images that would have been impossible to capture otherwise.
In 2018, it offers new technology for creating even more impressive footage.
Perrin explains: "Our new aircraft and battery technology allow larger camera and sensor packages to be flown for longer, with more accuracy and seamless integration into production."
Now the company is developing the ability to couple photogrammetry with its new aerial LIDAR service to capture even more data: "LIDAR is playing an ever-increasing role in the production of films laden with VFX.
"The use of scanners and LIDAR is commonplace from the ground, but the addition of accurate, LIDAR scanning from the air makes digital creation much easier and more convincing," says Perrin.
Yet, whilst larger drones can now carry state of the art equipment in terms of digital cinematography, HFS recently flew the ARRI 235 with a 200 foot mag of 35mm film.
"We can do retro!" laughs Perrin, "but you've got to have the right kit – this project was something the proprietary systems could only dream of doing."
Jeremy Braben, CEO, continues: "We pride ourselves on being flexible, as well as having the right kit.
"As ever, we're really excited about offering studios and producers enormous choice so they can capture what they desire."
