Granada and ITN agree archive deal
Granada International and ITN have agreed, in principle, to a deal for ITN to manage and market Granada's footage archive.
It is believed to be the UK's biggest ever archive representation deal, and one that is set to dramatically change the archive footage landscape. The partnership will bring together over 120,000 hours of Granada programming with more than 500,000 hours of footage already managed by ITN Archive.
As a supplier of footage to the broadcast, advertising and corporate production industries around the world, ITN represents the Reuters, British Pathe and Channel 4 archives as well as all ITN output, with material dating from 1896 to the present day.
The Granada footage archive contains some of the most well-known and iconic television ever produced, spanning over 40 years of Granada’s distinguished history. The archive includes exclusive footage of Martin Luther King in the UK, the Beatles playing in the Cavern, the Sex Pistols performing Anarchy in the UK and film of the rare and endangered blue whale. Major brands include 'Coronation Street', 'Survival', 'World in Action', 'The South Bank Show', 'Tonight With Trevor McDonald', 'Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway' and 'I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!'.
Nadine Nohr, Managing Director of Granada International, commented: “Granada have more than 120,000 hours of diverse programme footage, covering every genre from entertainment and music to drama and wildlife. We believe ITN is best placed to exploit this award-winning material in today’s competitive and consolidated marketplace.”
Mark Wood, Chief Executive of ITN, said: “This now positions ITN Archive as one of the world’s largest TV based collections – and gives us a range of content to compete with any in the global marketplace. Granada has produced some of the world’s best television programmes. By bringing together such a wonderful range of material with our existing collections, we can provide producers and film makers with an unparalleled choice of visual content”.
