Cartesian Becomes First Consultancy To Join Digital TV Group

News Image
Telecommunications consultancy Cartesian has become the first member from the consultancy sector to join the Digital TV Group (DTG).

The company will be leading the DTG's newly formed Digital Rights Management (DRM) group, which has been established in response to the growing importance of content security and consumer privacy.

The DTG already comprises a breadth of organisations, including television broadcasters, technology manufacturers, government departments, hosting platforms, universities and accessibility charities. By adding consultancies, this ensures progress in the field will benefit from a broad range of expert insight.

The DTG added with the full implementation of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) due in may 2018, the formation of a DRM group takes on even greater significance.

Richard Lindsay-Davies, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the DTG, said: "We're delighted to welcome Cartesian to the DTG, where they join global players such as Disney, Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Sky, Sony and Warner Bros as well as major British household names. As the scope of digital broadcasting continues to expand, so too does the range of experts required to ensure that progress is achieved in a way that is stimulating, value-driven and responsible. Cartesian's membership increases the opportunity for collaborative debate and guidance for the benefit of viewers – and that's really exciting."

Jean-Marc Racine, Senior Vice President at Cartesian, added: "The DTG offers a great environment for us to learn about and help shape industry innovations. The DTG's work on Digital Rights Management is of particular interest and we look forward to working with other members on this key issue for the industry. The interpretation of these GDPR regulations is causing a good deal of controversy, and as such the leadership of organisations such as the DTG will be crucial in order for Members to ensure compliance."
