'Left Out' names first prize winner
'Road 2Darkness', a film made by young people from the Ravenstone Project, Dumfries, has won the £2000 'Left Out' first prize, a new video competition for young Scottish filmmakers.
Launched last year by the Castlemilk Youth Complex, Left Out is supported by acclaimed filmmakers Ken Loach and Paul Laverty.
The finished work was judged by Barbara McKissack, Head of Drama at BBC Scotland, Stuart Davids, Raindog Creative Director, Carole Sheridan, Development Executive for Scottish Screen and two of Castlemilk's own 'youth directors', Chris Lang and Josie Farrow.
The other two winners in the competition are 'Making My Movie', an animation by Lochend Community High School, Glasgow, and 'Big Boyz Don't Cry', a hard-hitting film about life on the street by the Edinburgh based Street Work.
Carole Sheridan was particularly impressed by the standard of the entries. She said: "All of the projects achieved an exceptionally high standard and the teams involved were obviously enjoying themselves. The winner's project was technically very good but it also managed to tell a story. This was the reason it stood out above the rest. I congratulate Castlemilk Youth Complex for running this fun and creative initiative".
The winning entries will be screened at an award winners' ceremony on November 20 in the CCA Glasgow.
