Thomson have received an order valued in excess of 13.1m euros from ESPN, the world’s leading sports programming network for televised.
ESPN will use Grass Valley brand broadcast equipment from Thomson — including switchers, cameras, routing systems, control systems, and modular products — in a new HD production centre in Bristol, Connecticut.
The new 120,000 square-foot ESPN Digital Centre will supply programming for the network’s all-HD ESPN HD channel, which is now available to direct broadcast satellite and cable TV systems throughout the United States.
ESPN will install a variety of Grass Valley HD and multi-format broadcast products in the production centre, including the Grass Valley Kalypso HD Video Processing Center switcher, Trinix large-scale video routing switcher, Apex audio router, LDK 6000 mk II Standard multi-format HD cameras and Kameleon modular products.
“Thomson is proud to be working with ESPN on such a monumental project in the network’s history,” said Marc Valentin, president of Thomson Broadcast and Media Solutions. “The Grass Valley product line is known for reliability and increased productivity capabilities in large-scale environments like the new ESPN Digital Centre and we are excited to be collaborating with them to deliver high-quality HD programs to the American sports-viewing public.”
