Richard Jobson wins Best New Director award at BIFA

At the recent BIFA Awards in London Richard Jobson took the Douglas Hickox Award for Best New Director for his debut film, the award-winning 'Sixteen Years of Alcohol', with the award for Best Supporting Actor or Actress in a British independent film going to the film's female star, Susan Lynch.
In his acceptance speech Jobson told the audience: "Last time I appeared on the stage of the Hammersmith Palais was on my eighteenth birthday with The Clash, I am thrilled and delighted to be appearing again to accept this award tonight."
Sixteen years of Alcohol also had the distinction of being the film with the most nominations at the event.
Also featuring in the prize list last night was Peter Mullan's multi award-winning film 'The Magdalene Sisters', which received a special BIFA Jury Award for Best Ensemble Cast, an award created especially for the film which was judged to have perfect casting.
