Council Supports Film Production In Cork

News Image
The Irish Film Board (IFB), the Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Seamus McGrath and Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey, have discussed key objectives of the IFB's five year strategic plan.

The meeting was organised by Film in Cork, the body established by Cork County Council and Cork City Council to develop the film industry in Cork.

Mayor McGrath said: "There are vast possibilities that we, as a region, can promote through the Cork film industry. It has been proven, through the support provided by Cork County Council and Cork City Council to the production of the film 'Maze', that significant returns can be achieved. Film in Cork provided €15k while the production spent over €330k in the local economy during their seven week stay. Cork County Council is delighted to collaborate with organisations who are working to promote Cork as a destination and location for film and television production in Cork."

The IFB have placed a particular focus on the opportunities available to develop the film industry in Munster, and Cork specifically, through relations with local authorities and the creation of a regional film making fund to stimulate regional activity.
