Lottery-backed short film wins Cinemagic award
THE Lottery-funded animated film 'War Game' recently won recognition at the Cinemagic Festival in Belfast, when it jointly received Best Animated Film Award, voted by the Children's Jury.
The film has also been selected for the Berlin Kinder Festival and will be screened at the festival between February 11-16, 2002. The film has also been nominated for Best Animated Special at the British Animation Awards taking place on March 15, 2002, at the National Film Theatre in London.
War Game follows the story of three young men involved in the historically true football game between German and English troops in no man's land on Christmas day in 1914. The story is told from the perspective of the young men caught up in events beyond their comprehension. Beginning with a football game in the fields of Suffolk, it follows the men's journey to the fields of Flanders and the realisation of their dream to play for England.
The film, based on the children's picture book by Michael Foreman and adapted for screen by Simon Nicholson, is directed by Dave Unwin and produced by Iain Harvey from The Illuminated Film Company.
