Honeycomb Selects Vidchecker For Distribution Service
Honeycomb has announced the selection of Vidcheck's Vidchecker for its broadcast content distribution service.
Designed for checking file-based video, audio and related metadata before and after distribution, Vidchecker is used by broadcasters for checking files received from post-production companies and content owners to ensure that file, video and audio parameters and levels are correct and ready for general transmission. Vidchecker provides a server-based alternative to checking conformance by eye and hand. It can also automatically and intelligently correct video and audio levels. Sub-SD, SD, HD, UHD, 4K, 8K and mixed workflows are supported. The Vidchecker GUI is accessed through a web browser either on the local machine or remotely over a network.
Commenting on the integration with its systems, James Carpenter, CEO and co-founder of Honeycomb, explained: "Our mission is to revolutionise the world of advertising delivery. The current model is based and priced on the archaic method of physically transporting a tape from advertiser to broadcast station. This leads to multiple versions, multiple touchpoints and ultimately multiple errors.
"With so many elements in the chain, the cost is massively disproportionate to the reality of delivering digital assets. Honeycomb enables advertisers to spend their budgets on the actual task of creating great advertising and getting it to exactly the right audiences. Honeycomb makes the video advertising delivery process simple and intuitive, taking assets from advertiser to broadcaster and publisher in a faster and more efficient way. It uses the most modern methods and tools for quality control, transcoding, storage, and delivery of advertising creative material.
"Our service can operate in a similar way to Google Drive, allowing customers to update one central piece of content with all relevant parties able to see the updates and changes in real time. This eliminates the need for multiple versions, which has historically led to confusion and error in the final approved assets."
Honeycomb's Master of Broadcast Wizardry, Craig Russill-Roy, added: "Vidchecker allows us to offer clients the ability to get a quality control report back. This is then injected into the user interface so that the client can see the issues and either upload or cancel the order. Vidchecker currently processes hundreds of HD commercials and longforms each day. The QC service is also available via a web user interface and this allows our support team to monitor the system from practically any device.
"As the UK marketplace is mature, we are keen for customers to adjust and correct their own files and upload until they are right. The Vidchecker instruction PDF makes it very easy to pinpoint an issue without needing to search through a long technical document. We are planning on moving to Version 7 as soon as it comes out as the key features that are rolling out are completely in harmony with our vision. The Vidcheck API is straightforward and completely embedded into the Honeycomb platform. This views the DNA of the file and then smart-sends the file to the right template for QC. Once the file has gone through the system, Honeycomb notifies the customer if it is a pass or fail. This is achieved very quickly, in a matter of seconds."
