New Avid Unity LANshare network available for hire

London Editing Machines (LEM), one of the UK's leading editing equipment hire companies, has become the first in Europe to make Avid's new Unity LANshare shared storage network available for hire.
According to LEM's Peter Watson: "The new Unity LANshare will provide the perfect content sharing solution for non-linear film and larger television editing projects. With a background in cutting rooms ourselves, we've come to appreciate that editors need effective 'user-friendly' systems. Unity, in conjunction with our newly upgraded Avid Film Composers, provides just that."
The Unity LANshare has a capacity of up to 10 seats and was purchased through Premier Reseller root6.
"We try to keep our systems compact," Mr Watson said. "And there, the advances in technology have helped considerably. It took two men, for example, to move the rack of drives that we supplied to 'Tomb Raider.' The 640 Gb drives in the Unity LANshare take up only 3U of rack space yet, at normal editing resolution, they provide more than twice the capacity."
LEM has supplied editing solutions to a number of high-profile projects including the box-office hits 'Notting Hill', 'Tomb Raider', 'Captain Correlli's Mandolin' and 'Shackleton' - the recent highly acclaimed production from Channel 4.
Meanwhile, Exposure Post Production in Newman Street, London, will also be taking over the former premises of 8811 and Mouse & Keyboard, also in Newman Street. This will see an additional investment of £250,000, to create an additional four Avid off-line suites, to add to its current symphony, and on-line Avid suites.
