Altered Images helps strengthen Royal Holloway's media resources

Altered Images, the Shepperton-based broadcast systems reseller, has supplied and installed a second Avid Unity LANShare EX system to the Royal Holloway, the University of London's newly refurbished Media Arts Centre, where it is integrated with the new and existing Avid editing systems.
Altered Images' Project Leader, Nick Frith, said: "This project further demonstrates our ability to offer our services to both broadcast and education customers alike."
Leading on from this project, Royal Holloway is one of the first institutions to consider supporting Avid's new 'Avid Academic Partnership' (AAP), a recently launched programme of partnership between educational establishments, Avid and Altered Images.
As part of a major refurbishment of the College's Media Arts Centre, Altered Images were approached to supply and install a second Avid Unity LANShare EX system, and supply a total of 28 new Avid Xpress Pro Editing System licences. The new LANShare EX system is connected to two new teaching rooms with multiple edit suites. The brief also included Altered Images re-installing the College's existing LANShare EX system in a new engineering rack.
Besides the new Avid Unity LANShare, the equipment rack also included Uninterruptible Power supplies, KVM switches and cables. Altered Images also carried out a complete installation and on-site system test, and provided on-going support services.
Frith added: "Avid Technology aim to provide their education partners with the resources and support they need to deliver industry-recognised training for the TV editors of tomorrow. As a premier Avid reseller, Altered Images are in an ideal position to deliver, support and maintain the products and the relationship between Avid and the end user."
All the equipment was configured and pre-tested at Altered Images' Shepperton HQ, before being delivered and installed on-site. Altered Images worked closely with the College staff and other building contractors to deliver a working solution, on time and within budget.
Altered Images' sales and technical staff worked closely with Keith Buckman, Coordinator of Technical Services for the College's Department of Media Arts.
Buckman said: "Our department has over 250 student and staff practitioners who use video editing for producing dramas, documentaries, contemporary art pieces and media practice research. Our aim is to enable students to progress from simply acquiring operational skills so they become able to demonstrate a high level of conceptual skill when editing their final assessed pieces.
"The new facilities have enabled us to offer a common professional editing platform across our programmes, from first year undergraduates through to practice PhD students, and have significantly enhanced both the quality of their learning experience and the efficient provision of essential learning resources. The Altered Images team have been most supportive in successfully integrating the new equipment with the existing facilities."
