Dennis Potter Award 2003 launched

This year's Dennis Potter Award will give out three development awards for writers to work on scripts for a single film on BBC Two.
One script is will be commissioned as a single film to be screened on BBC Two in 2005.
The aim is to encourage discernibly original writing and writers for BBC Two. The writers should be aware of the demands, restrictions and freedoms of BBC Two, and should also appreciate the spirit of Dennis Potter.
Those sitting in judgement on the entrants will include Jane Root (Controller BBC Two), David Thompson (Head of BBC Films), Jane Tranter (Controller of BBC Drama Commissioning), nominees from the Dennis Potter estate and writers, directors and producers of renown.
The Dennis Potter Award was set up in 1995 after the celebrated screenwriter's death, to nurture and encourage the work of new writers of talent and personal vision. Its spirit is that of the writer who provides its name, probably the greatest writing talent to have worked in television.
