PROVYS Puts You In The Driving Seat

The latest developments of unique integrated software solutions for media will be on show this NAB again, writes Martin Junek, Marketing Director, PROVYS.

The PROVYS team is going to present the latest experience with ongoing projects which include non-linear services, web based production tools and optimisation of promotion campaigns. In addition to these new developments, the PROVYS's new Broadcast Management Dashboard (BMD) will be on show, professionally built upon a standard Broadcast Management System (BMS).

Although this is a back-office tool which can never be as fancy as some broadcast production technology, the influence on the health of any broadcast organisation is enormously positive. The Broadcast Management Dashboard collects data from the BMS and financial systems and visualises both current and historical outputs for managers to quickly get an overview as to how the organisation or its divisions perform and the reasons behind such performance.

The BMD allows individual managers to monitor important broadcast processes and using KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), to give accurate information of how the particular division is performing without the need for deep data analysis. KPIs provide a very efficient path for delivering critical information. In addition to that, the BMD lets users easily understand the reasons for performance from different perspectives and makes it straightforward for the management to react accordingly, and without delay.

For the PROVYS team, it is with great pleasure to unveil the Broadcast Management Dashboard at NAB in Las Vegas. It is well known that throughout the last few centuries, the dashboard was an important part of every stagecoach. It protected coachmen from stones and dust thrown up by the carthorses' hooves which now "dashed" against the board instead of the coachman's legs. At the beginning of the 20th century, dashboards changed their face by incorporating meters and gauges. It took just a few decades for all modes of transport to follow suit with dashboards becoming standard equipment in aeroplanes, trains, boats and even spaceships. In the world of computers, virtual dashboards arrived quite soon after, bringing with them a clear and fast overview of any system status. Nowadays, these digital dashboards are exploited in many different industries including finance, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, etc. It is still relatively new in broadcasting and media.

In the mid Nineties, PROVYS developed a few embryonic reporting screens upon the newly developed Broadcast Management System. Users often printed these reports and used them mainly for management information. In the meantime, the development of the media industry gained much higher speed and immediate decisions are today crucial to survival in this increasingly competitive environment. This is why PROVYS decided to develop specialised Broadcast Management Dashboards for different areas of the media industry.

There are just a few truly professional BMS systems available in the world today. The common attribute of these systems is the fact that they collate and master all metadata flowing through the organisation. In addition, they are mostly tightly connected to the financial systems. These are the main reasons why BMS systems hold all vitally important information for all media operations. It has now become natural to source the data either from the BMS database or independently, acting as Software as a Service (SaaS) which can data-mine from other generic BMS and financial applications.

The newly designed dashboards precisely target specialised user groups of individual managers such as finance, chief executives, producers, channel managers, schedulers, media managers, air-time sellers, self-promotion managers, archivists, VOD publishers, and their teams. Standard KPIs are accurately identified and embedded in a clear graphical form. For more demanding users and managers, the dashboards can be customised to fit their ever evolving requirements. Web interface for mobile devices is under development.

Broadcast Management Dashboards by PROVYS bring an unprecedented advantage for broadcasters. They gather and present key business indicators for easier and much more competent management decisions. Gathering data from different corners of the media industry such as new non-linear services, they can influence market share, advertising revenues and the ultimate financial results of the organisation.

Broadcast Management Dashboard simply puts you in the driving seat.
