Filming Commences On Rillington Place

Filming has begun on new BBC One drama Rillington Place.

The three-part drama is being filmed at BBC Scotland's Dumbarton Studios, as well as on location in Glasgow and London, and stars Tim Roth and Samantha Morton.

Rillington Place is based on a number of real-life murders carried out by John Christie in Notting Hill in the 1940s and 1950s. Through a miscarriage of justice, a man named Timothy Evans was hanged for a crime he did not commit, but the tragedy contributed towards the abolition of capital punishment in Britain.

Tim Roth stars as John Christie, while Samantha Morton plays his wife, Ethel. Together, they live at the Rillington Place address, where Christie carried out the murders. The drama also stars Nico Mirallegro and Jodie Comer as newlywed couple Timothy and Beryl Evans, who fall prey to the influence of Christie after they move into a neighbouring flat.

Rillington Place is a 3 x 60' drama made by BBC Drama Production in association with Bandit Television for BBC One. It is directed by Craig Viveiros and written by Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone.

Commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC TV Channels and iPlayer, and Polly Hill, Controller BBC Drama Commissioning, the executive producers are Phillippa Giles for Bandit Television, part of Endemol Shine Group, and Hilary Salmon for BBC Drama Production. It is produced by Sharon Bloom.

Samantha Morton said: "I am very much looking forward to being part of Rillington Place with wonderful director Craig Viveiros in Glasgow, a city I love. And I am of course a huge fan of Tim Roth, so it's a thrill to be working alongside him."

Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone, writers of Rillington Place, added: "This is a story you just can't look away from: an unlikely serial killer who orchestrated a devastating miscarriage of justice. It has drawn us in at every turn and has attracted an incredibly exciting level of talent who are as committed as we are to bringing it to life."
