Silentair Help Desk At BVE
We normally launch a new product at BVE, but this year we are taking the opportunity to celebrate our 5th year within the film and broadcast industry, writes Phil Gillatt, Technical Director, Silentair.
It's been an interesting time with plenty of challenges along the way, but more importantly I feel, is that we have increased our knowledge base so much by actually doing things that give our clients a much better Silentair experience.
As you may well know we don't do standard solutions for sound sensitive studios.
That's not to say traditional AC solutions are not the right solutions, it's just that if sound is an issue, traditional systems struggle to get down to our operational noise levels of NR15 and below.
It can be done using extra large ducting and reduced air movement. I saw a good example of this a short while ago when I visited a larger music studio. The background AC noise was discernible through the large number of grills positioned around the space but it depended on where you sat; some positions were worse than others.
So everything was good, yes? Well, no actually. When our tour took us outside the studio I was able to see the size of the ducting used to move the air in and out of the studio and it was enormous, measuring at least 3 metres square.
I could have easily driven my car inside the duct, and when we got to the attenuators? Wow, they were even larger. Following the ducting led us outside and eventually to the Air Handlers positioned on the roof. These were monsters too.
Why am I telling you this? Well, here at Silentair we don't use oversize ducting, we don't use attenuators, we don't need Air Handlers and we don't need all that space around the studio, yet we still have the lowest operational noise levels in the world. Which one would you choose?
You need the right information to make the right decision and that's one of the reasons we are running the help desk at BVE.
Studio air conditioning information is not readily available. There are lots of tales around lots of examples of poor installations and we see quite a few, some of them very recent. So we thought we would offer you our collective 100 years of AC experience. No strings attached.
This is not a sales gimmick but a genuine offer to share our knowledge with you, for your benefit, so you can make a better studio or just be better informed with your choice for your new or refurbished studio.
We are not talking technical bafflement either, straight talking, simple to understand solutions you can adapt to suit your requirements.
If you want to take a little step further, register at the Help Desk at BVE and if you want, we will come to your studio and give it the once over. We will also carry out a sound test while we are there so at least you will know what your studio operates at when live.
If you take the opportunity to ask questions, we will offer any possible solutions we might have, that might help, all completely free of charge with no commitment to you in any way. After that it's up to you.
You can contact Silentair using www.silentair.co.uk or 0113 2708873 or [email protected].
Or better still why not use to old fashioned way and come and talk to us face to face at the show, stand P16.
