PROVYS Ticketing Is Just The Ticket
The sheer magnitude of the vast range of the European Parliament's media production services requires the highest possible level of professional care and management.
As all media professionals know, the EU Parliament operates one of the largest and most comprehensive content production facilities in Europe today, comprising a huge range of TV, radio and internet services. By Martin Junek, PROVYS.
In order to ensure total care and control over the thousands of items of media production equipment, users have two principal possibilities. Firstly, a number of ready made, off-the-shelf economical software packages are readily available on today's market and are usually adequate for smaller and simpler operations. The original market for these packages was the manufacturing sector where applications for production management, stock control and time scheduling were increasingly required. The second possibility, for more sophisticated clients who require bespoke solutions in order to manage all their conceivable resources is to employ the services of a specialist software house with first hand knowledge and experience of the client's particular sector. In the case of the European Parliament, a decision was taken in 2012 to employ the services of Provys in order to set standards and create order in their massive media production facilities including the management of a wide range of staff and resources supplied by outsourced vendors.
Three years down the line, in the light of satisfactory experience with the software applications, the EU Parliament have again chosen Provys, this time for a professional ticketing system which will mainly serve the engineering department of the AV Unit. The principal features of the ticketing system include: a tool for engineers and operators to issue tickets for every individual piece of media production equipment, no matter how small; a full-text search engine which enables an unlimited mining capacity; integration with the existing facility management system; and a full statistical and reporting tool which will be totally flexible according to the engineering requirements. In addition, the major expectation from the European Parliament is the internal sharing of the know-how which will culminate in an organisational knowledge base providing improved efficiency and effectiveness at all levels of this most important branch of the Parliament's operations.
Martin Pargac, Provys Consultant, comments: "We are delighted to be working with the European Parliament again. From their point of view, this is the best thing since sliced bread as it solves their main headache: how to keep track of the purchase, usage, storage, maintenance and eventual liquidation of their thousands of items of extremely valuable equipment."
System implementation is now ongoing under the professional watchful eye of Provys' experienced consultants. As with Provys's previous installations at the EU Parliament, this new project will make all data available in real time across the whole organisation, be it in Brussels or Strasbourg. All new data is instantly available on a central database server. This allows the application of a Brussels specifically required hierarchical approach to resource management.
Integration with the existing systems is well under way and as Provys is a management tool, it can gather information about the status of tasks. When such status changes, actions are triggered. Just the ticket, eh?
