Grass Valley's Kalypso is a hit at 'The Brits'

The ITV1 "Brit Awards" ceremony featured the high-quality production work of a Grass Valley Kalypso Video Production Centre at the heart of its operation.
At the live ceremony in London, the leading outside broadcast company, CTV OB, worked with the show's producers Brits TV, using the Kalypso system as its main production mixer.
The Kalypso system is installed on CTV's OB4 (pictured), believed to be the first fully custom-built entertainment truck in Europe. During the Brit Awards production, the Kalypso system handled all the required vision mixing, cutting, and wiping required, and was configured with inputs to 22 cameras and outputs to 14 VTRs.

The Kalypso Video Production Centre family combines industry-leading switching and M/E capabilities with an open, networked architecture that offers a precedent-setting degree of operational integration. With up to 80 inputs (video or key) it offers fingertip control of a number of previously off-board functions to streamline workflow, a 100-frame still store capability, greater M/E capabilities, and a programmable clean-feed system. All from a familiar Grass Valley interface.

In addition to the Brit Awards, CTV used the Kalypso system extensively for live music production, including that for the recent Smash Hits Poll Winners Party, which provided a natural stage for the system's dynamic effects and graphics capabilities.
