'Rescue Dogs To Super Dogs' Commissioned By Channel 4

Channel 4 Features has announced the commission of a new three-part series, Rescue Dogs to Super Dogs.

The series will follow a number of homeless dogs as they are given new homes and paired with people who are suffer from mental, physical or neurological disabilities. The dogs are then trained over a period of 12 weeks to be able to assist their new owners in their lives.

It has often been said that the bond between dogs and humans is special, with dogs able to feel empathy, read and react to human emotions, as well as smell and sense chemical changes in bodies. They also demonstrate an unconditional love towards their owners.

Rescue Dogs to Super Dogs will show the canines trained to help people with a range of debilitating conditions, from OCD or Tourette's, to Narcolepsy and Paraplegia.

Commissioned by Helen Cooke, Channel 4 commissioning executive for Features, the series is being made by Plimsoll Productions. Karen Plumb is executive producer.

Helen Cooke said: "This ground breaking training is extremely rare in the UK, so Rescue Dogs to Super Dogs will give dogs an opportunity to fins a loving, permanent home and in return they will change their owner’s lives for the better."

Karen Plumb added: "Rescue dogs can often suffer with hyper attachment syndrome which can work in their favour when being intensively trained to assist people with life limiting conditions."
