ITV Chooses Silentair

ITV has selected Silentair as the preferred supplier for all their TV and Post Production Studios in the UK.

Silentair have been working with ITV over the last 18 months, upgrading quite a number of different types of studios, ranging from post production to broadcast studios throughout the UK.

The extremely low noise levels of these unique Silentair fan coils, coupled with the low height requirement, make the Serenity fan coil the obvious choice to upgrade their studios and make them some of the best in the industry.

The completed studios were very well received by all the professionals so much so that ITV are embarking on a planned upgrade to all their studios using Silentair products.

However, the biggest challenge for the company was how to silently Cool and Heat Scripted studios – silently and economically.

Other criteria that were high on ITV’s list were; draught free, controllability, energy saving, expandability and ease of operation.

Top of the wish list is System Serenity’s ability to operate at NR 15, which means the AC can be run continuously during shooting without affecting any recording equipment.

System Serenity is a major advancement for TV and film Studios compared to traditional methods of studio cooling which treat the studio as a whole being; trying to gradually cooling all the air in the studio over a period of time, whereas Serenity just cools the active zones on the set.

It does this by using a number of small fan coils, which are called pods.

The purpose of each pod is to maintain the temperature of a 8 x 8 metre area directly below it.

There is no limit to the number of pods that can be used per studio and each individual pod can heat or cool when required.

This means that the system will only cool the set that is in use ignoring the other sets in the studio until told to do so.

Sometimes extra cooling is required above the normal fixed AC requirement.

With the System Serenity, it is a simple matter to plug in additional pods to boost the cooling output over the set that needs it.

However, perhaps the greatest benefit of using System Serenity over the traditional Air Handler and Large ducting is the operating cost.

System Serenity uses 80% less energy compared to Traditional systems.
