Kelly Brook To Star In 'Taking Stock' Movie
Kelly Brook is to star in new independent British movie, Taking Stock.
The crime drama, has been written and directed by Maeve Murphy, and will receive its premiere at this year's Raindance Film Festival at London's VUE Cinema, Piccadilly, 4 October.
Set in London, Taking Stock is described as a 'Bonnie and Clyde' inspired escapade. Kate, who is played by Kelly Brook, is an out-of-work actress working in a shop, until she is unceremoniously made redundant.
In a week from hell, her boyfriend also leaves her, the shop goes bust and the rent and gas bills have not been paid. Inspired by the notorious outlaw Bonnie Parker, Kate decides to take matters into her own hands and, gathering a gang from her young shop assistant friends, comes up with a plot to rob the shop.
But where is her Clyde?
Kelly Brook said: "I'm delighted that Taking Stock will premiere at the Raindance Film Festival. I had so much fun on the shoot and think everyone involved, both behind and in front of the camera, should be proud of what has been achieved with such a small budget. The UK produces some great filmmaking talent and it's so good to be part of a home-grown project like this."
Maeve Murphy is an award-winning writer/director. Her first feature, Silent Grace, was nominated for the Conflict and Resolution Award at the Hamptons International Film Festival, USA. Beyond the Fire, her second feature, won Best Feature at both the London Independent Film Festival and New York's Garden State Film Festival. The film was broadcast on BBC2 in 2013.
Ms Murphy said: "I'm so pleased that Taking Stock is premiering at the Raindance Film Festival. The festival's joyous indie spirit fits Taking Stock very well. Kelly really shines and it's a good platform for people to see it. Essentially it is a fun film which shows, in a light hearted way, some of the issues and dilemmas young people are currently facing in the UK today."
Taking Stock is based on Maeve's award-winning short film Sushi, Venice Film Festival 2011.
The cast for the movie includes Scot Williams (The Crew, Beyond the Fire), Georgia Groome (London to Brighton; Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging), Jay Brown (Youngers, The Hunted) Femi Oyeniran (Anuvahood), Lorna Brown (Lile Soldat), Junchi Kajioka (47 Ronin, Sushi).
The crew includes Director of Photography Gerry Vasbenter (Summer in February) and Composer David Long (Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit).
The film was developed by Northern Ireland Screen and co-financed by Prime Focus. It is produced by Maeve Murphy and Geoff Austin (BAFTA nominated film Rollin’ with the Nines) with Frank Mannion (Plastic) of Swipe Films as executive producer.
Swipe Films is the worldwide sales agent.
