MPC to install state-of-the-art film scanner

The Moving Picture Company (MPC), one of Europe’s leading digital post-production facilities, have recently purchased and installed Cintel's first DSX.
The DSX is a next-generation film scanner, capable of exceptional image quality at 4K, 2K, HD and SD. Another key benefit is that DSX is the only machine on the market that includes ‘Oscar’ (Optical Scratch Concealment And Removal) – an innovative and unique electro-optical system that works in real-time to remove the effect of surface contaminants, such as dust and scratches on film. 'Oscar' also increases the grey scale rendition for black and white film, which is a significant leap forward.
MPC underwent a lengthy evaluation process before deciding to purchase a DSX. Jean-Clement Soret, Senior Colourist and director at MPC, said: “We’ve been very impressed with the creative possibilities of DSX. 'Oscar' is also a fantastic tool that brings extra depth and clarity to the picture, cleaning the film in a single pass. DSX has a different way of analysing colours compared to other Telecine machines – so this will complement the range of services that we can offer to our clients.”
David Jeffers, Managing Director of MPC, said: “It is very exciting to be at the front of the queue for this new piece of kit. It provides us not only with our first full resolution film scanning capability but also expands our available resource for our increasing involvement with HD and digital cinema.”
Managing Director for Cintel, Adam Welsh said: “We have worked with MPC for a number of years, and are very proud to be associated with them. MPC set very high standards and always insist on the best – so we are extremely privileged to be a part of their future.”
