Megahertz announce new BBC Technology contract

UK-based systems integrator, Megahertz Broadcast Systems has won a contract with BBC Technology to design and install a new radio vehicle for the BBC, for use on the station's news broadcasts.
The vehicle, the third vehicle of this type to be provided by Megahertz, is based on a Mercedes Sprinter 313D SWB Panel Van. It will be a rapid response unit for newsgathering, and will come equipped with both satellite and terrestrial links, as well as production facilities.
Work has already begun on the vehicle, which will have space for an operator, reporter and interviewee, as well as appropriate microphones and monitoring, and it is expected to be ready before the end of the year.
The new radio vehicle will also include an integral 9-metre pneumatic mast or a satellite dome fixed to the roof, which will enable outside links, and a system that will be able to run from internal batteries with capacity of 660Ahrs, or external mains.
