Sony gears up for NAB 2002 with integrated ranges

Sony Broadcast & Professional have previewed their Anycast line of professional digital acquisition and IT-enabled production tools in the run up to this year's NAB event.
Sony unveiled its e-Services solutions – a suite of initiatives offering consulting systems integration and after-sales support.
Edward Grebow, deputy president of Sony Electronics and president of its American Broadcast and Professional Company, said: "Our goal is to help our professional customers establish all-digital production environments that deliver innovations in workflow management, increase productivity and even new business opportunities."
At the core of the new integrated AV/IT professional production tools and services of Sony are the eVTR and DeviceMonitor software. Representing the emergance of video systems and data networks, the eVTR is a plug-in card that enables Sony MPEG IMX VTRs to connect to Gigabit Ethernet networks. With the eVTR plug-in card, MPEG IMX VTRs can transfer video segments as files over IP networks to other MPEG IMX VTRs or servers anywhere in the world.
In addition, the eVTR enables remote control of VTRs, allowing, for instance, a technical director in New York to roll tape on a VTR in Moscow.
With DeviceMonitor software, customers can use their PCs to check the status of their entire broadcast operations.
New Sony digital acquisition tools include two high-definition acquisition systems for electronic field production (EFP) and studio applications, as well as a 525/59.94 MPEG IMX professional camcorder.
The HDW-730 HDCAM camcorder and the HDC-930 studio camera help make HDTV production more attractive for broadcasters' day-to-day needs. The cameras feature IT CCD image sensors, offering high signal-to-noise and very low vertical smear on severe highlights. Both also feature switchable 59.94i and 50i operation, which, in line with the ITU standardized 1920x1080 Common Image Format (CIF), can facilitate HD production anywhere in the world.
The new Sony solutions that can be found at NAB booths L18207 and L515 represent an integrated approach to audio-visual and information technology content management, incorporating industry standards such as Gigabit Ethernet networking and MPEG-based compression.
